Ho Chi Minh City has recently broken ground on the QTM International Port, part of the Cai Mep–Thi Vai port complex, adding further seaport and logistics capacity to the Southern Key Economic Region.

The project was officially launched on July 5 in Phu My Ward. Covering more than 80 hectares, the project has a total investment of nearly VND 6.9 trillion. The port is designed to handle approximately 16 million tons of cargo annually, along with a general cargo warehousing system and a logistics support area of nearly 200,000 square meters.

The project will be developed in two phases from 2026 to 2034. Upon completion, the port is expected to have eight berths capable of handling vessels of up to 60,000 DWT, with plans to accommodate vessels of up to 100,000 DWT in the future.

The QTM International Port is located within the Cai Mep–Thi Vai port complex, one of Vietnam’s major deep-water port clusters, with direct access to trans-Pacific and European shipping routes. With 110 kilometers of coastline, Ho Chi Minh City has identified maritime transport and logistics as one of the three key sectors of its marine economy.

According to Mr. Hoang Nguyen Dinh, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the volume of cargo transported by sea and inland waterways in the city increased by 7.3% in the first six months of the year. Following the merger of three localities, demand for the transportation of goods and raw materials is expected to remain high, creating a need for a logistics system capable of facilitating interregional and international connectivity.

According to Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Vy, Deputy General Director of QTM International Port, the project aims to develop an integrated logistics ecosystem connecting seaports, warehousing, transportation, and value-added services. This approach is in line with the trend of shifting from conventional port operations toward providing comprehensive logistics solutions, thereby improving the efficiency of cargo connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and domestic and international markets.
